The Technicians’ section might be tucked away, but hopefully I can post some resources from the IOP and others that will be useful as you support teachers and students learn and experience Physics.
Let me know if there is anything in particular you’d like to see.
I’ll eventually add a post about the Electricity Hospital that you asked about, and share the videos.
REGIONAL EQUIPMENT
Every Region was sent out the following equipment:
- 36V Transformer for Electrophoresis Kit (x2)
- Colorimeter 2.0
- Electrophoresis Kit (2x 8 tanks)
- FLIR infra-red camera
- Lab Quest 2 Datalogger
- LabQuest 2 Spectrophotometer
- Lascells Cloud Chamber
- Mystrica Colorimeter (1x sets of 4)
- Mystrica Colorimeter (1x sets of 4)
- SpectroVis Optical Fibre
- Vernier Gas Pressure sensor
- Vernier Light sensor
- Vernier Magnetic Field sensor
- Vernier radiation monitor (GM tube)
- Vernier UVA sensor Vernier Voltage Probe
Please try to track this down and make sure it is shared amongst Regional Colleagues.
Here are the relevant videos
Lascells’ Cloud Chamber

FLIR Thermal Imaging Camera
This video takes you through some of the workings of the FLIR Thermal Imaging Camera, and copies a video where I use a similar camera as part of the “Beyond the Visible” topic in schools. It shows that although visible light can’t travel through a black bin liner, infra-red radiation can. The black bin liner has little effect on the image displayed on the screen.
LABQUEST 2
These are better video’s than I can produce, although if you like and I am able I could condense these into one with the best bits from each one, but it is a task! Is there a better way I can use my time?
